I clicked on my television last night and my all-time favorite movie was playing on satalite cable programming. The Lord of the Rings-Fellowship of the Ring was playing. I threw a bag of popcorn in the microwave, poured myself a cold drink and sat down to enjoy the evening.
The Lord of the Rings takes place in a mythological place called Middle Earth. In Middle Earth, there are creatures of all varieties which include orcs, wizards, hobbits, elves and dwarves. Being that I love the mythological realm, I thoroughly enjoy movies of this genre. The storyline follows the first adventures of J.R.R. Tolkein’s creation of “The Hobbit” where a bumbling hobbit follows a band of dwarves and a wizard into the Misty Mountains to destroy a dragon which has been terrorizing a place called River Town. Along the way, the bumbling hobbit named Bilbo Baggins finds a magical ring that makes the wearer invisible. He keeps the ring for many years and it starts to have an effect on Bilbo that he never realized. The magical ring starts consuming his every thought and desire until the ring is the only thing he cares about. The Fellowship of the Ring picks up where the original Hobbit story left off. Bilbo is now much older and decides to go away to Rivendell, the home of the elves. The ring is left behind for his nephew Frodo Baggins. After the wizard, Gandalf researches the history of the ring, it is discovered that the soul of the evil lord Sarruman is inside the ring. The ring must be destroyed so Sarruman cannot come back to Middle Earth.
The ring can’t be destroyed by normal means and must be thrown into the lava of the mountain in which it was formed. The entire series follows Frodo, Gandalf and the fellowship along their journey to the mountains. This movie contains action, intrigue, mystery and suspense. Perfect for the entire family.
